Marketing for a heating and cooling company is not one thing. It's a system — demand you can see, a website that converts it, and follow-up that turns a call into a booked job. Most HVAC companies own pieces of that and no way to tell which pieces are working.
The four ways HVAC marketing usually goes wrong
- Everything is seasonal panic. Budget goes up when the phone stops ringing and gets cut when it starts. That's the exact opposite of how search works, where the rankings you earn in February are what carry you through July.
- Nobody knows the cost per booked job. Not cost per click, not cost per lead. Cost per booked job, by channel. Without it every budget conversation is an argument instead of arithmetic.
- The website is a brochure. It loads slowly on a phone, buries the number, hides financing and asks a homeowner in a 95-degree house to fill out a form and wait.
- Leads leak. Missed calls, no text-back, no follow-up on unsold estimates. You pay for demand and then let it fall on the floor.
What a complete HVAC marketing program contains

We run the same three-step system for every client. It is called the Accelerated Growth Model.
Step 01 — Drive Leads
Search Engine Optimization. Google Business Profile optimization for the map pack, a page for every system and every town you serve, seasonal content built a season ahead, and local link building. See our HVAC SEO program for how that works in detail.
Paid Search. Google Ads on the terms that produce jobs, with negative keywords doing as much work as the keywords, and budget that follows the season instead of chasing it.
Local Service Ads. Google Guaranteed placement above everything else, priced per lead. The fastest channel to switch on when the phone is light.
Social and video. Retargeting the people who already visited, and authentic company video that makes you the recognizable choice rather than the cheapest one.
Step 02 — Maximize Conversions
Web Design built to convert: fast on mobile, the number visible everywhere, real photos of your trucks and techs, financing up front, and service-specific landing pages behind the ads instead of a generic homepage.
Reputation Management so review volume keeps climbing, because reviews drive the map pack and the map pack drives the calls.
Conversion Amp — speed-to-lead automation. Instant text-back on missed calls, follow-up on unsold estimates, and reactivation of the database you already own.
Step 03 — Optimize Results
Call tracking on every channel, a live ROI dashboard, and a monthly strategic review in plain English. You will know what each channel costs and what it returns, and we will move budget accordingly.
Where the leads actually come from
One documented Paul The Plumber reporting period: monthly leads went from 285 to 468 while average cost per lead fell from $36.74 to $20.48. Of those 468 leads, 208 came from Google Maps, 141 from organic search, and 119 from paid search.
The biggest single source wasn't paid. It was the map. Any marketing program that treats Google Business Profile as a checkbox is leaving the largest channel on the table.

What it looks like when the system is running
Cardinal Heating, Cooling, Plumbing & Electric — Sun Prairie, WI
Marketing manager Andrew Bonds treats Google Ads, Local Service Ads and SEO as strengths of the business and watches cost per lead, cost per acquisition and ROI before deciding what to spend. In a February 2026 interview he said Cardinal was increasing its Google Ads budget roughly 10–15% per month because the returns justified it.
He also described our team as an extension of Cardinal's internal team — fast communication, campaigns adapted around the company's objectives. When budgets are moving and the business is scaling, that partnership is what keeps the machine tuned.
The Meridian Company — East Lansing, MI
Craig Phillipitch's company had plateaued. After the change he described strong visibility across most search categories and said the business almost doubled in size — at times turning off paid search because it couldn't handle the call volume.
He was careful not to credit all of that to marketing, calling our work a major component rather than the whole story. Worth remembering: marketing creates opportunity, and the rest of the business has to be able to absorb it. A growth plan should be sequenced around your current constraint, whether that is leads, conversion, or technicians.
Jerry Brittingham A/C & Heat — Daytona Beach, FL
Phones were light, so we reviewed the lead-generation mix and added Local Service Ads. William Brittingham reported an immediate difference in calls and Google leads, and separately described email campaigns producing calls and booked appointments visible in the analytics the same week.
All figures come from named client interviews and are documented in How to Triple Your Sales by Getting Your Digital Marketing Right.
