Social Media Marketing - Facebook Makes All the Decisions

“We reserve the right to reject, approve or remove any ad for any reason, in our sole discretion, including ads that negatively affect our relationship with our users or that promote content, services, or activities, contrary to our competitive position, interests, or advertising philosophy.”
This is an actual blurb from Facebook’s terms of service and really states that the administrators can do pretty much whatever they want and you just have to sit there and take it. If you wake up one morning and find your Facebook account wiped out, you may never receive a reasonable explanation as to why. Facebook prides itself on being politically correct, but in actuality they are the ones that are discriminating, adhering to unwritten laws and biases that they themselves are said to condemn. Basically if they don’t like you, you’re gone.

Even the experts may find themselves gone

Even Guy Kawasaki, the top advertiser for Canva (a highly praised graphic design tool) and former evangelist for Apple was kicked off of Facebook for debatable aggressive marketing tactics. He he has also written multiple books on the proper ways to use social media, but still found himself in this predicament.
While Facebook laws may be a bit vague and are likely abused more than we would think there are still things you can look out for that will hopefully help you to avoid getting your account shutdown. And once an account has been disabled it is up to Facebook to let you back in the club.

The laws of Facebook

Facebook has become a great tool for Plumbing & HVAC companies looking to gain more leads through extensive digital reach, but you need to be aware of what flies and what doesn’t. Take a look at the list below:

  • There is a limit to how many friends you can have and Facebook is capping this off at 5000, also too many requests in one day could lead you straight to the curb.
  • An over abundance of posts and even worse identical posts that are repeated again and again will leave you with nothing but a one way ticket out of there.
  • The same friend request message that is duplicated and sent out overzealously may also cost you your account.
  • Too many pokes will get your prodded out of the world’s most popular social media site.
  • When advertising for your Plumbing or HVAC company do not use your personal timeline, always create a separate page and make sure that all of your information is correct and any updates are made right away.
  • Generating content and photographs for your business that are of low quality or irrelevant can definitely land you in the doghouse. There is also a set of rules to follow when targeting specific audiences.
  • If you have a video set to play on people’s pages automatically without them opting to do so, this is yet another way to infuriate the administrators.
  • If your posts have any links to useless doorway pages then you have more trouble on your hands then simply being ostracized from Facebook.
  • Oh and never under any circumstances abbreviate the name Facebook in your posts.

In many ways Mark Zuckerberg and his merry men are trying to eliminate spam, but in some cases they have misinterpreted the intention of certain users or have failed to clarify an unspoken rule. So while Facebook advertising can be extremely helpful for creating more leads for your Plumbing or HVAC business you need to watch your step or you could end up standing on the other side of the wall scratching to get back in.
