If you've read any of my posts, by now you have figured out that I'm a big advocate of Social Media Marketing for Plumbers. But... there are times when social media will not work for your Plumbing business and here are 5 reasons you should avoid it.
- You only want less than 10 customers for your business. - This might sound odd, but what if you are a commercial plumbing company with some big city and government contracts, and you only want 10 clients. There really is no point in using social media for your business.
- Firewalls limit your company to the very basic computing. - In this day and age there are still companies that have a firewall and limit social media sites from being accessed. This is a short minded way to run your business but there are companies that do it. If this is the case you really have no access to this wonderful marketing tool and no way to engage with potential online customers.
- Your company needs to generate a high volume of short term sales. - Short term and social media just don't go together. Social media is a long term solution to building relationships and generating leads.
- Lack of Resources to dedicate to a social media campaign. - Social media is time consuming and requires engagement. You need to have a full time person to take on this job. Whether it's in house or you are hiring a company to manage it for you. You can't have the receptionist pop into Facebook every 2 days to see what's happening.
- Lack of a brand advocate in your company. - Yes you need someone in your organization that believes in new media and understands that social media marketing is a long term solution. This person has to be on board with a social media campaign and believe that in the long run it will pay off.
So you see, there are reasons you would not want or could not use social media marketing in your business. But if you could stop for a second and take the time to understand that these really are the new ways to market your Plumbing business online, you would take the time to eliminate these obstacles and start moving in the right direction.
After all, you would not have said the Yellow Pages were a fad and a bad place to advertise your business back in the 80's would you?

Our company sees nearly 2000.00 a week in service work from Facebook alone. Up from 1000.00 a week last year at this time and up from zero two years ago. Google and Yelp have helped us immensely also.
