Why you need to dial-in your market, your message, and your media.
You can’t effectively market your company to everyone because not everyone is going to work with you. If you look through the list of your previous customers you’ll see it’s true. There’s a certain kind of customer who prefers your company. You need to know who those people are - THEY are your target market. Then you need to know what they want most, what matters to them most - that will dictate the message you use in your marketing. Finally, you need to know HOW to reach out to those customers. No matter what kind of marketing you do it’s likely that everyone who hears about your company is going to wind up on your website, either to contact you or to check you out. Is it set up in a way that will get you the most customers? Are you capturing potential customer emails?
When somebody calls your shop, what happens on your end of the line? You grab a pencil and jot down information, don’t you? You’re getting what you need to serve that potential customer in the way they need. When someone comes to your website you need to do the same thing. One of the best ways to do so is by offering discounts or coupons - but requiring the visitor to enter their email address in order to receive it. That way you capture their email address so you can send them marketing materials and discounts - and you’re also giving them a better value by providing the coupon you promised. On pay per lead sites, the company who responds first is the one that gets the job.
There are a number of “pay per lead” sites out there - Home Advisor, Google Home Services, Yelp, Angie’s List - and many more. If you’re going to drum up business through those channels you need to be ready to respond immediately when a call or lead comes in. That may require that you download the app for the service so you can receive an immediate notification when someone expresses interest in having you serve them. If you don’t, you won’t get the work because people who use those services are typically in need of help immediately.
