Does SEO even matter anymore?

Is SEO even relevant with the Google algorithm pushing PPC ads? Google keeps moving more and more towards paid search ads. So much so that you have to scroll down quite a bit these days to find the organic search results. Even with the algorithm changing when someone runs a search 71% of clicks go to the organic listings. And 67% of clicks go to the top 5. So, yes SEO still matters! You still need to diversify your marketing strategy with pay per click and other methods, but SEO definitely still matters. That is where a large share of your customers will come from. You can’t rely on paid search alone, investing in SEO is still a wise investment. What about you? When you run a search for a provider do you search for the paid listings or scroll down?

3 big changes in the Google algorithm that are affecting your ranking

There are 3 main areas in the Google algorithm that are affecting your ranking that you may not have thought about.

  1. Duplicate content will bring your ranking down. In the past, you could copy and paste content from different sites on to your webpages to reuse them but those days are over. Look at the pages on your website and analyze whether you have duplicate content anywhere on your site. If you have any duplicate content on any of your webpages you need to remove them. You should also weed out any pages that are irrelevant to your target market. Make sure to make all the content on your websites unique.
  2. Are there bad links heading back to your site? It used to be that you would try and get as many links as you can to head back to your site. But with the new algorithm changes if there are links from irrelevant sites or junk sites they can hurt you. There are tools that you can use to find all of the links that you have back to your site. Analyze those links and see where they come from. If there are any irrelevant links get them removed.
  3. Google maps optimization requires that you need a physical address for your business. A PO box will not serve your purpose any longer. If you don’t have a real address you won’t have a chance to rank on maps. You need a physical address in the city that you are trying to rank for.

These 3 key issues are where 80% of the SEO ranking problems are coming from.

What is the new SEO formula ranking factors?

The focus of Google rankings is now on the user experience. Google tracks what the consumer is doing once they get onto the website after they click. They want to know if people are actually staying on your site and reading and scrolling down or if people are clicking back to the previous page. Google wants the consumer to find what they are looking for. Their biggest objective is that the results they give solve the problem of the consumer and answers their questions. When designing your web pages, remember to give Google what they want. Time on page is a big deal so you should map out how you can design your webpages to increase the amount of time customers stay on.

How do you map out your website around SEO keywords and build authority?

When mapping out your website you want to keep the user experience at the front of your mind. Don’t simply jam it full of keywords and a good meta description. One way to increase the consumer's time on the page is by leveraging multimedia.  Use imagery to ensure the customer stays on the page and scrolls down. Pictures of the team and trucks you use make a greater impact than using stock images. You also want to create webpages with unique content for all of the cities that you service. To build your authority it is important to blog about helpful relevant solutions for your customers on a consistent basis.
